Cessnas for Afghanistan

Six Cessna T182Ts and 26 Cessna 208B Caravans have been ordered by the US Department of Defense for supply to Afghanistan. Details of an $88.5 million contract under the Afghanistan Basic Trainer/Light Lift Family of Systems programme were revealed on May 26. In addition to the aircraft, aircrew training devices, contractor support and advisor training are included in the deal. An option exists for 15 additional examples to be delivered to the US Air Force at McGuire AFB, New Jersey, to allow that service to train air advisors. A further 24 Caravans are available as options in two lots for supply to other air forces involved in anti-insurgency and terrorist operations, with Afghanistan and Iraq being the prime candidates to receive them if they are exercised.
