Croatia Deploys Mi-171Sh to Kosovo to Support KFOR

On December 5 the Croatian Armed Forces deployed its Sixth Contingent (6. HRVCON) to Kosovo as part of the NATO-led KFOR (Kosovo FORce) peacekeeping operation. Comprising 20 members of the Croatian Armed Forces and led by Major Sasa Crnec, the HRVCON is a Hrvatsko Ratno Zrakoplovstvo (HRZ, Croatian Air Force and Air Defence) detachment consisting of three crews, two Mi-171Sh transport helicopters, a technical team for maintenance and a national support element. The contingent will be deployed in the area of Camp Bondsteel in the vicinity of the town of Urosevac (Ferizaj). Croatian participation to KFOR started in 2009 and so far five rotations have been successful completed. The sixth Croatian Contingent is scheduled to participate within KFOR until April 2011 and is directly assigned to KFOR Headquarters in Pristina.
