Bombardier Water Bombers to Viking

Bombardier Aerospace is to sell its amphibious aircraft programme to Viking Air. The transaction, which is subject to Canadian Government approval, will mean Viking acquires the type certificate and manufacturing rights for the Bombardier B-415 SuperScooper and its variants, as well as the earlier CL-215 and CL-215T. Bombardier ceased manufacturing operations of the B-415 at its Amphibious Aircraft Division final assembly facility at North Bay Jack Garland Airport, Ontario, at the end of 2015. The North Bay facility was always a low rate production facility, peaking in recent years at four aircraft annually. It was operated under contract by Vortex Aviation, and was closed and cleared out by the end of January. Bombardier's debt issues, largely relating to development delays with the C Series, saw company-wide cuts.
