Yak-130 Mitten

The Yak-130 Mitten is the only Russian military aircraft without Soviet origins introduced to production and service. It is winning more and more recognition and new orders. On June 25,1990, the Soviet Military-Industrial Commission ordered a contest for a new advanced jet trainer. The competition was contested by the Sukhoi S-54, Myasishchev M-200, Mikoyan 821 (later redesignated MiG-AT) and Yakovlev Yak-UTS (later redesignated Yak-130). In July 1992, the Russian Air Force ordered more detailed designs of the Yak-130 and MiG-AT. By May 1994 the Yak-130 was deemed better, but the final choice was postponed again and prototypes of each design were ordered. The first Yak-130D (Demonstrator) built in accordance with the original design first flew on April 25,1996.
