摘要

On March 30 2016, the Bulgarian Government allocated funding for two important aircraft programmes, but coordination and further approval will be required from the Ministry of Finance because of competing programmes required by the Voennomorski sili na Republika Balgariya (Bulgarian Navy) and the Land Forces. The budget should be approved by the Bulgarian Parliament by the end of May at the latest. This first programme involves acquisition of up to 16 multi-role NATO-compatible fighters in two phases. Phase one covers eight second-hand or new aircraft, tentatively slated for delivery between 2018 and 2020, costing up to €511 million. It is unclear whether this amount includes weapons and a long-term support package. An initial operational capability for the air policing mission is expected in late 2019, followed by full operational capability in late 2021.
