New Tanker Still Years from First Deployment

The troubled KC-46 tanker will not be deployable for at least three to four years-forcing the Air Force to consider delaying planned retirements of the service's older refueling aircraft. Air Mobility Command boss Gen. Maryanne Miller is pressing Boeing to solve lingering problems with the aircraft's remote vision system. "I'm looking at the fact that we're eight months into accepting our airplanes, and Boeing has not presented a solution that has met all the parameters," Miller said Sept. 18 at AFA's 2019 Air, Space & Cyber Conference. The Air Force has identified nine parameters that must be met and two in particular are proving "very difficult," she said.
