Meet the Future Unmanned Force

Two new autonomous aircraft concepts that promise to redefine the Air Force's unmanned fleet are moving forward. The first is Kratos Defense & Security Solutions' XQ-58A Valkyrie, an experimental "wingman" aircraft that would fly alongside manned combat jets. The second, still on the drawing board, is Skyborg, an autonomous drone prototyping program launched in October at the Air Force Research Laboratory. The goal: Create a low-cost, easily replaceable, combat-ready system by the end of 2023.
