The United States economy is on a definite upswing as we begin 2004. The economy accelerated during the second quarter of 2003, as the housing market at-tained new highs in new housing production. Overall output for the U.S. economy as measured by gross domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 8.2 percent during the third quarter of 2003.
