Filming is now well underway for the new movie Devotion- based on Adam Makos' best-selling book of the same name. Subtitled "An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship, and Sacrifice," the book centers on a particular series of events that takes place during the Korean War. What is good for the Air Classics reader is that the new film features real aircraft and not computer-generated images. So, we have real aircraft and a story revolving around the Korean War - an epic conflict that, as we have noted in these pages, is poorly covered in all forms of media and as time passes it is sadly becoming a forgotten war. The book and the movie delve into the relationship between Corsair pilots Lt. Tom Hudner and Ens. Jesse Brown - one white, the other black. Hudner passed up going to Harvard so he could fly fighters for his country while Brown became the first USII black fighter pilot. Both would fly and fight with VF-32. We will be having more on the movie in future issues but - spoiler alert - the story does not have a happy ending.
