EPA Finalizes Worker Protection Standards for Pesticides Here's How the New Rule Impacts Aerial Applicators

On Sept. 28 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a pre-publication version of its 314-page final rule updating agricultural worker protection standards (WPS). The WPS is a uniform set of requirements for employed workers, handlers and their employers that are generally applicable to all agricultural pesticides and are incorporated onto agricultural pesticide labels by reference. Its requirements complement the product-specific labeling restrictions and are intended to minimize occupational exposures generally. The WPS final rule also will update standards for state agencies.
