Improving metamemory in ageing and Parkinson's disease

SIR—Older adults and patients with Parkinson's diseasen(PD) have significant but subtle deficits in memory and metamemoryn[1]. Metamemory refers to people's knowledge,nawareness and control of their memory [2]. A commonnmethod for measuring people's knowledge of their memorynabilities (‘monitoring’) is to ask individuals to predict hownwell they will remember items during an upcoming memoryntest. One such prediction method is the Feeling-of-Knowingn(FOK), which consists in asking participants to predict thenlikelihood that they will subsequently recognise informationnthey have failed to recall [3].
