Inga 3: BHP still a fan

Officials from the BHP Billiton mining group were in Kinshasa in early June to pen a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the purchase of some of the power produced by the future Inga 3 dam. If, in fact, the dam project pans out, BHP has pledged to buy 1,600 MW to supply the aluminum plants it intends to build in Lower Congo province.The Australian giant already signed a similar contract in 2007 but it ran out in 2009. By signing the new accord, BHP made it clear that it believes in the Inga 3 project (generating between 4,000 and 5,000 MW) which is gradually taking form.
