Emirates Fortune Group takes N’Djamena and Abu Dhabi on a solar honeymoon

The burgeoning ties between Idriss Deby and the UAE, where the Chadian president dispatched his son Zakaria Idriss Deby to serve as the new amabassador in April, is beginning to bear fruit. On July 7, Chad’s minister of oil, Michel Boukar, signed an agreement with Almaden Emirates Fortune Power, a joint venture between the Emirates Fortune Group (EFG) and Chinese solar panel manufacturer Almaden, for the construction of a 200 to 400 MW solar power park between the towns of Toukra and Mandalia. Based in Dubai, EFG is headed by the prominent lawyer specialized in arbitration, Naser Muhyealdeen, legal counsel to Saudi prince Saud bin Abdulaziz bin Nasser Al Saud and to the UEA armed forces. EFG’s managing director Anwar Majid Hussein also directs the Sheikh Rakadh Group which was founded by former OPEC president and former oil minister of water, Rakadh Bin Salim. The Sheikh Rakadh Group’s first foray into Africa was a $50 million loan to the Rwandan government in May 2017 for the development of renewable energy projects as part of the Rwandan Smart Master Plan.
