Nigeria Under Lekoil’s orders, Fidelis Oditah pressures Abuja over OPL 310

Exasperated by the Nigerian government’s slow pace in signing off the shareholding structure of offshore block OPL 310, Lekoil has decided to send in a local legal heavyweight, Fidelis Oditah. Oditah will be pleading the company’s case before the High Court of Nigeria. Lekoil has been waiting two years for Abuja to accept its purchase of Afren’s 22.86% share in the project, after the later when bankrupt in 2015 ( AEI 804). Although the Nigerian government said it would conduct its due diligence for the sale of Afren’s shares in March 2016, Lekoil still hasn’t been informed of its decision. The company, which has held a 17.14% stake in the OPL for several years, is hoping to carry out work on the site to get the project moving forward.
