Ass ala Energy: Gavin Kirkham poaches Tullow men to build finance team

CFO of Assala Energy, the firm controlled by investment fund Carlyle International Energy Partners (CIEP) which bought most of Shell's Gabonese assets in 2017, Gavin Kirkham has been busy building up a robust financial team. Nearly all his new recruits come for his former employer Tullow Oil. This is the case of Freddie Iron, who will also work from the firm's London office, as well as David Quirke, a consultant for Assala Energy, as is Philip Hendry. There are a few members of the finance department that did not previously work for Tullow Oil, including former BP and PwC executive Anshuk Sharma. Several other Assala Energy finance executives will be based in Gabon. These include Olivier Clinckemaillie (former finance advisor for Perenco in Congo-K) as well as Mark Allen (previously active for Shell Gabon). This appetite for Tullow Oil veterans is not only because of Kirkham's past at the company, Assala Energy's current chief executive David Roux has previously headed the British junior's Gabon unit. Roux has also been an advisor on African matters to Tullow Oil's CEO.
