Since Samia Suluhu Hassan's coming to power in Dodoma, Tanzania has steadily edged closer toEgypt. Samia Suluhu Hassan's three-day visit to Cairo, from 10to 12 November, follows numerous overtures that havebeen made by Egyptian head of state Abdel Fattah al-Sisito Dodoma. Tanzania is a member of the Nile BasinInitiative (NBI), a key institution in negotiationssurrounding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam(GERD), and the country has long been a target ofEgyptian diplomacy. But it was not until Hassan'sinauguration that Cairo found a sympathetic ear: formerpresident John Magufuli had reduced diplomaticrelations between the two countries to a strict minimum.
