Why GNPC is intent on taking control of Aker and AGM's oil assets

State-owned Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, which wants to acquire a 37% stake in the Deep Water Tano/Cape Three Points (DWT/CTP) oil block and a 70% stake in the South Deep Water Tano (SDWT) field, is actively trying to secure approval from the different governments bodies concerned by the operation. The two blocks are operated respectively by Aker Energy and AGM Petroleum, both controlled by Norwegian billionaire Kjell Inge Røkke.
