'Photocopie' cancels a €45m contract awarded by Hamed Bakayoko

At the end of June, new defence minister Téné Birahima Ouattara, who is the younger brother of head of state Alassane Ouattara and generally goes under the nickname of "Photocopie", cancelled a contract for the construction of 45 barracks for the gendarmerie. The project was part of the ambitious 2016 military programme law championed by former defence minister Hamed Bakayoko, who died in March. On 23 June, Photocopie's chief of staff, Jean-Paul Malan, sent a letter to Danah Construction, which had been awarded the contract for an estimated CFAF30bn (€45m), to inform it of the minister's decision.
