The president is making sweeping changes to several key ambassadorial posts in the Arab world. The powerful Mouride and Tidjane orders are about to lose their long-held prominence there. President Macky Sall, who is going all out to attract funds from the Gulf oil monarchies, is changing the profile of his ambassadors in the region. Until now, these were almost all drawn from the powerful Mouride and Tidjanes brotherhoods. Almost simultaneously, Sall is about to replace his top envoys in three of the most important countries in the region: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar.
