Court dismisses Metallon tax appeal over legal technicality

The Special Court for Income Appeals handed down anunusual ruling on 1 June in the dispute between MetallonGold Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority(Zimra). Metallon had gone to court to appeal againstZimra's 2015 demand for unpaid taxes for the period2009-2012. The amount of money involved has not beenmade public. But Judge November Mtshiya summarilydismissed the case even before hearing the pleas. Hedeclared that he could not hear the case becauseMetallon's lawyers had named the "CommissionerGeneral, Zimbabwe Revenue Authority" as therespondent, and not the "Zimbabwe Revenue Authority"as required by law.
