Asante Berko reaches deal with SEC over Aska Energi commissions

The US-Ghanaian financier has managed to halt the regulator's lawsuit against him. Here's what's in the deal. A little over a year after it filed a complaint against the former executive director of the London office of Goldman Sachs, US-Ghanaian Asante Berko, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is about to close the file. Berko has agreed to pay the US Treasury nearly $330,000 to end legal proceedings. The financial regulator suspected him of having received several million dollars between 2015 and 2016 from the Turkish company Aksa Energi to help it win the contract to build a power plant in Ghana. Berko allegedly facilitated payments to Ghanaian officials. Soon after the SEC initiated proceedings in April 2020, Berko, 46, resigned as boss of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).
