As the sole signatory to the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to upgrade the highway between Accra and Tema, the Portuguese construction giant Mota-Engil has managed to irk its former consortium partners on the project, with whom it initially landed the contract in the form of a public-private partnership (PPP). According to the information of Africa Intelligence, Mota- Engil has reached a financial arrangement (for a confidential sum) with its erstwhile associates in the joint venture: the French engineering company Egis, South Africa's African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM), and the French government investment vehicle Stoa Infra & Energy. The deal is understood to compensate them for the time and money spent on responding to the call for tenders issued by the Ghana Highway Authority and thereby head off any potential legal action against the Portuguese firm.
