Since 5 March, mobile telephones have been fizzing in West Africa's seats of power. All this phone activity has been aimed at trying to get news of the state of health of Ivorian prime minister Hamed Bakayoko. His parallel careers as businessman, politician, and masonic dignitary mean that he is linked to a whole galaxy of businessman, politicians and advisers. Whether it be Ali Bongo's former chief of staff, Maixent Accrombessi, or Felix Tshisekedi adviser Jean-Claude Kabongo, not to mention Karim Keieta, the son of deposed Malian president Ibrahim Boubacar Keieta, and footballer turned businessman Didier Drogba, all are trying to to find out how the Ivorian prime minister is faring on the basis of the interests they share with him or the projects in which they are engaged with him.
