Investors rush to open refineries and apply for trading licences as gold prices stay high

Between now and the end of June, Ghana's M&C Groupplans to inaugurate its newest investment project - agold refinery with capacity to handle 100 kg of ore permonth, which has been built in East Legon in the suburbsof Accra. Construction of the plant has virtually beencompleted. The machines have still to be installed butthe company already has its ore processing andmarketing licence from the Ghanaian authorities. TheM&C Gold and Precious Metals Refinery, which will beheaded by former footballer and unsuccessfulparliamentary candidate Eric Kodi, should enable thegroup to produce gold which will be more than 99% pure.As such, it will command a higher price than the 92%pure gold M&C is currently producing at the small foundryoperated by its trading arm, M&C Logistics and Trading.
