BP's new Grand Tortue Ahmeyim project director pays first visit to Nouakchott

Emil Isa Oglu Ismayilov, who was quietlyappointed head of BP's operations inMauritania and Senegal in early December,made his first field trip at the end ofJanuary. With Kosmos Energy, the oil groupis developing the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim(GTA) project which straddles the maritimeborder between the two countries.Ismayilov went with Mauritanian oilminister Abdessalem Ould Mohamed Salehto the port of Nouakchott to see how workis progressing on the shore base being builtthere to enable the field to be developed.Ismayilov, who is 42 and from Azerbaijan,has been put in charge of BP's biggestAfrican gas project but will be overseeing itfrom London. Two country managers arelooking after the project on the ground.Mohamed Limam is based in Mauritaniaand Geraud Moussarie in Dakar. BP hasbegun running down its hydrocarbonsinterests in Africa but has held on to its cooperatorrole on the GTA field, where gasreserves are estimated at more than 400billion m~3 .
