Total calls on army to secure Afungi facility site in Cabo Delgado

The terrorist attacks on the village of Mute, just a few dozen kilometres from the Afungi peninsula in the Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, on 7 and 8 December and another one even closer in Monjane on the 29 December, have put even further pressure on Total's security teams. The company has already begun to transfer some employees from Afungi to Maputo. This is the closest the insurgents have come to the site where the French major and its partners of block 1 - Bharat, Oil India, ONGC, PTTEP, ENH and Mitsui - are building a liquefaction facility for which the final investment decision was taken in 2019.
