Washington highlights child labour in mica mines to strike blow against Beijing

18 September marked the deadline for applications for United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funding of $4.5 million for projects to tackle child labour in mica mines in the south of Madagascar. The US government estimates that more than 10,000 children work in artisanal mica extraction in the country.
