Khemaies Jhinaoui, who was foreign minister until Kais Saïed came to power as president in October 2019, has returned to the diplomatic stage with the creation of a think tank, the Conseil Tunisien des Relations Internationales (CTRI). Jhinaoui, himself a career diplomat, has filled the CTRI with leading economists and other former diplomats. These include Habib Essid, who served a brief stint as interior minister in 2011, as prime minister under former president Béji Caïd Essebsibetween 2015 and 2016, and as presidential advisor on domestic affairs, a job he quit when Saïed won the last presidential election.
