Lourenço cherry-picks five experts to lead new mining regulator

President João Lourenço has picked Jacinto Ferreira dos Santos Rocha to preside the much-anticipated new mining regulator Agência Nacional de Recursos Minerais (ANRM). The new entity regroups all of the government's mining regulation activities under one roof. Its role will include the award of permits to quality controls and strategic planning of operations. These tasks had traditionally been shared between the state-owned mining firms Endiama and Ferrangol, the first for diamonds and the second for all other minerals.
