Cash-hungry Sasol quietly bows out of E&P

According to our sources, the South African firm Sasol recently put up for sale the 40% it has held in the producing Gabonese licence DE-8 since 2018. Sasol, which owns the permit alongside operator Perenco, needs cash fast. Although it will hold on to its other Gabonese permit, Etame Marin, which it owns alongside Vaalco Energy, the South African firm is also now looking for a buyer for its Mozambique assets. It will first sell its 50% interest in Republic of Mozambique Pipeline Investment Co (ROMPCO) via Nedbank (Africa Intelligence, 30/06/20). ROMPCO manages the pipeline carrying production from the gas fields of Pande and Temane in Inhambane Province to Sasol's plant at Secunda, South Africa.
