ZIMBABWE Fuel: Mnangagwa picks new team to handle mounting crisis

The Zimbabwean president Emmerson Mnangagwa needs a little extra time to renew his team while the country continues to feel the brunt of fuel supply shortages, despite support given to distributors Engen, Total and Zuva Petroleum (AEI 840). On May 14, the head of state pulled Joram Gumbo, appointed secretary of state for presidential affairs, off the energy and electricity portfolio to hand it over to Fortune Chasi, who until now had been vice minister of transport and infrastructure. This former MP is the Zanu-PF Midlands provincial chairperson. Midlands is the homeland to Mnangagwa, Gumbo and billionaire Kudakwashe Tagwirei, who made his fortune in fuel distribution via his group Sakunda Holdings (AEI 838).
