According to our sources, the man behind the rise in Nigerian investments in Equatorial Guinean oil and gas is on the chopping board. Akim Lima Razaki, a cousin and an advisor to the minister of petroleum Gabriel Obiang Lima, is currently being grilled by the ministry of national security about his regular trips to Nigeria. He is said to fly by private jet to Nigeria at least twice a month. The national security ministry reports directly to the vice president for defence, Teodorin Obiang Nguema. The legal director of the ministry of petroleum, Jonas Nsue Mikue, was summoned to explain the reasons behind Akim Lima’s very regular trips to Lagos and Port Harcourt. Teodorin is keen to understand who lies behind the Nigerian junior Levene Energy that picked up blocks in the latest oil and gas licencing round. Levene now must wait on the outcome of the investigation before it can finalise the terms of its exploration contracts.
