TANZANIA Frederik Grootendorst to champion Shell in talks with Magufuli

Shell has picked another long-term companyplayer to replace Axel Knospe at thehead of the major’s Tanzanian branch inDar es Salaam. The new country manager,Fredrik Grootendorst, has left his post asShell’s LNG negotiator in Canada, to takeup his new role. Grootendorst build upexperience in LNG working for the British-Dutch major’s Indian and UAE branches. Inhis new position, he will be looking to gainheadway on the LNG train project that hasbeen at a standstill since President JohnMagufuli took power in 2015. The futureLNG facility is supposed to be fed fromShell’s blocks 1 and 4 and Equinor’s block2. Magufuli has several TPDC negotiators,including Kelvin Komba ( AEI 856),engaged in talks with Shell to reach a compromiseover the project. Grootendorst willbe able to draw on commercial directorDirk Nevelsteen’s years of experience inTanzania, where he arrived in 2016.
