No-one who has followed the progress of Brazil's Embraer can be under any doubt that it has emerged as a huge aerospace powerhouse. After starting with commuter aircraft, it has forged a path in regional jets, trainers and business aviation. Yet with its E-jet family it has held off, so far, directly attacking Airbus and Boeing's turf with a larger version. Its upcoming re-engined second-generation E-jet, though, should make other regional manufacturers wary.
