A small but potentially significant study into the maintenance of U.S. Army helicopters in Iraq has determined that readiness improved by 10% for helicopters equipped with condition-based maintenance (CBM) technology. The study looked at eight AH-64D Apache helicopters from the U.S. Army's 3rd Aviation Regiment (Attack Reconnaissance), 3rd Aviation Brigade (3-3 ARB) over a one-year period. Each aircraft was equipped with the IAC 1209 health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) from Intelligent Automation Corp. (IAC).
