Let's be honest now. How many of you have seen a video on YouTube? I would bet that at least half of this readership has seen at least one. YouTube was created so that an individual user's video could be showcased for the enjoyment of anyone who would like to see it. Why bring this up? Because video on the Web has become an enormous draw to specific Web sites. This month's column is devoted to the impact of videos and the software used in producing them. Video is and can be used in many, if not all, phases of improving the communication of messages. It is used in many training organizations for a wide range of purposes, from helping new hires learn procedures to teaching maintenance and other processes. Imagine how much easier it would be to provide customers or colleagues with a video to help explain a particular situation or problem. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video must be worth hundreds of pictures. And if a video can be distributed cost-effectively-over the Web, for example-more people will have access to key information conveyed in a clear, singular voice.
