In 1943, britain was making slow but sure headway against the forces of Hitler, Mussolini and Tojo, despite more than three years of hardship and sacrifice. One rayrnof sunshine in the dark days of rationing and nightly bombings, however, was the collection and publication, by Faber & Faber, of slang terms used by His Majesty's armed forces, compiled by two enterprising young officers; Fit Lt J.L Hunt of the RAF and Lt A.G. Pringle of the Royal Artillery.
