The Society of British Aircraft Constructors (SBAC) had staged six exhibitions and flying displays between the wars, but its first two post-war events were held at Handley Page's Radlett airfield near St Albans and were not open to the public.rnHowever, the move to the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) airfield at Farnborough for the 1948 show not only provided a much larger venue but the public could be admitted on two days to see where their taxes were being spent, and this site is still in use 60 years later.
