Following a ten-year restoration, combat-veteran Curtiss P-40N-5 42-105861 flew again on March 1 at Lafayette, Louisiana, with owner John Fallis at the controls.rnThe fighter will soon be painted in its original 49th Fighter Group colour scheme, and is scheduled to appear at the P-40 gathering at Geneseo, New York, on July 11 -13.rnThe P-40 flew with the 49th Fighter Group in August-May 1944 in the south-west Pacific, and was recovered from an airfield near Dumpu, New Guinea, in 1974 by an expedition organised by the late David Tallichet.rnAfter arriving in California the P-40 was cosmetically restored and displayed outside one of Tallichet's themed restaurants.
