Flug werk FW-190 F-AZZJ ditched into the Bay of Hyeres off Provence in France on June 12 following the failure of its 1,877h.p. ShvetsovrnASh-82 engine. Pilot Marc Mathis, who is reported to have been practising his display for the 100th anniversary Aeronavale showrnat Hyeres the following day, was unhurt and swam 160yd ashore. The replica, which is owned by French warbird pilot Christophe Jacquard, was salvaged on June 17.
