Lieutenant-commander Edgar Lee, the last survivor of the heroic Channel Dash attack on the Scharnhorst,rnGneisenau and Prinz Eugen on February 12,1942, died at his home in Suffolk on October 29,2009.rnBorn on May 18,1921, Lee was an Observer in one of six 825 Sqn Fairey Swordfish which attacked the German ships in the Straits of Dover during their breakout from Brest, heading for their bases in Germany. With no fighter cover, the Swordfish stood no chance against the Luftwaffe fighters escorting the fleet, and within 25min of leaving RAF Manston every Swordfish had been shot down. After ditching, Lee helped his wounded pilot into a dinghy.
