Oldest Stearman flies again

Stearman C3B c 004, NC3440, flew again on April 30 at Felts Field, Spokane, Washington, in the USA, following a two-and-a-half-year rebuild by owner Larry Tobin. The fourth Stearman built, it is the oldest airworthy example. On September 20, 2008, it was almost destroyed during a crash landing in the Columbia Gorge following engine failure while returning home after an eight-day airmail commemorative flight from New York City to San Francisco. The previous May it had flown for the first time in 71 years, following a three-year restoration by Tobin.
