RAF BBMF Dakota gets 'D-Day' paint scheme

On april 11 the Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Douglas Dakota III, ZA947, arrived back at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire following major servicing and a repaint. The machine now wears D-Day stripes and the colours of a 233 Sqn Dakota III, FZ692, which bore the name Kwicherbichen on the nose. Based at RAF Blakehill Farm in Wiltshire, FZ692 was used to fly casualties home from France following the Normandy landings. The servicing was managed under contract by the Duxford-based Aircraft Restoration Company, with the majority of the work sub-contracted to Eastern Airways at Humberside Airport.
