Sir, I read the Aircrew article in December 2010's Aeroplane on the Avro Lancaster bomb-aimer with interest, as my father was in that crew position with No 467 Squadron RAAF, based initially at Bottesford in Leicestershire. He was a member of the only complete crew that could be traced by the officials at Hendon who had flown in the RAF Museum's Lane, "S-Sugar". He only had one trip, the aircraft's 96th operation, and it was quite eventful. Father described the pilot, Jack Colpus, as brilliant, with just a slight tendency to bounce on to the runway after a long and tiring trip! Apparently, his only "failing" was to be blinkered when on the bombing run, not wanting to deviate under any condition until the bombs had been droDDed, so as to obtain maximum accuracy.
