Hangar Bay opens at Pensacola

On january 14, the National Museum of the US Navy at Pensacola, Florida began the centenary year of naval aviation with the public opening of the new $7.5m Hangar Bay One building. The extra 55,000 ft2 of display space primarily accomodates aircraft from the post-war era, several of which had been deteriorating outside at the museum. The two most historic aircraft on show are Lockheed P2V-1 Neptune Truculent Turtle and Douglas R4D-5L Skytrain Que Sera Sera. The Douglas Skytrain made history on October 31 1956, when it became the first aircraft to land at the South Pole.
