Kent Battle of Britain Museum

The Kent Battle ot Britain Museum opened to the public at Hawkinge on Good Friday 1982, but can trace its roots back a further 16 years to 1966 when Mike Llewellyn and his team started to collect and recover artefacts from crashed Battle of Britain aircraft. Initally the museum started as a travelling exhibition before finding a home in some old chicken sheds on a farm owned by former Battle of Britain pilot Brian A.H. Hitchings, before eventually relocating to Chilham Castle near Canterbury in Kent in 1972. The museum is located on the famous former Battle of Britain airfield of Hawkinge, now a residential estate, and has good transport links with the nearby M20 and has excellent rail and bus connections from both Canterbury and Folkstone - the bus service even stops directly outside the museum! The entrance to the museum is located within the shop, which has a wide range of items to suit all ages and budgets. Cold drinks, tea and coffee are available from the shop.
