"In the early hours of this morning, a force of Botha bombers attacked with torpedoes the dams of the Mohne and Sorpe reservoirs..." Operation Chastise, the breaching of the Mohne and Eder dams in May 1943, has been heralded as one of the greatest feat of arms ever achieved by the Royal Air Force. It is rightly seen as a triumph of the technical innovation of engineers, manufacturers and groundcrew; of great airmanship, personal courage and determination of the aircrew, not to mention the unsung diligence of intelligence staff and planners who provided and assessed information to facilitate the execution of the operation.
