A bit of bother across the Channel

On August 5,1914,2 Squadron was moved to Farnborough and one week later moved to Dover (Swingate Down), an aerodrome which would serve as a stepping stone for many squadrons crossing the Channel to France. On August 13, the first aircraft, B.E.2a, No.347 flown by 1st Lt Hubert D. Harvey-Kelly, lifted from Dover and, with the white cliffs of Dover behind it, landed at Amiens at 0820hrs. Over the next three days, the squadron arrived in France and, during August alone, was moved to eight different aerodromes, four of which were visited over a four-day period.
