Cocky, savvy and bold - that was Jack Ruskin.A demobbed ex-RAF Dakota pilot, he couldn't wait to start satisfying what he confidently expected would be a booming post-war demand for air services. In most respects he was typical of scores of others eager to blow their gratuity on surplus aircraft and put them to work. Yet Ruskin was actually a fictional character created for a Yorkshire Television series in the early 1980s and brought to life by actor Roy Marsden. The aircraft, though, were real enough. Inevitably, they were DC-3s, and for the TV series they were supplied by a company called Aces High, which still specialises in supporting film work.
