The Air and Space Hall at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) in Manchester looks set to be closed permanently, once the lease on the old market building in which the aircraft are displayed expires. The building - which was constructed in 1876 as a market hall, became the City Exhibition Hall in 1900 and opened as the Air and Space Museum in May 1983 - is owned by Manchester City Council, and needs repairs to the roof. Sally Macdonald, who was appointed as director of MOSI in May 2014, was quoted on the Manchester Confidential website as saying: "It's a beautiful building and the planes are much loved but it's impossible to heat and it needs a lot of work to bring it up to scratch. We are looking at a range of options but most of the planes are on loan from the RAF Museum and aren't really part of our story.
